SYRACUSE -- CNY Central is pleased to announce the expansion of “Today in Central New York” on WSTM-NBC 3. Starting Monday, September 24th, the newscast will begin an hour earlier at 4am. Currently, Today in Central New York airs weekdays from 5am to 7am.
NBC 3 will be the first local broadcast television station to provide news at 4am in Central New York. With this expansion, CNY Central recognizes people’s lives are busier than ever and they want their news and weather forecast earlier.
Today in Central New York anchor Lisa Spitz says of the expanded newscast, “When there is severe weather or breaking news, Today in Central New York will be first on the air with important information and school closings that viewers need to know to keep their families safe and informed before heading out the door.”
Spitz was recently named permanent anchor of Today in Central New York and is joined by Meteorologist Peter Hall and reporter Brandon Roth.
This is just one of many exciting changes taking place at CNY Central. Megan Coleman recently returned from maternity leave to anchor the 5pm and 6pm newscasts with Matt Mulcahy on WSTM – NBC 3. Coleman and Mulcahy, along with WTVH-CBS 5 anchor Michael Benny, have introduced a dynamic new segment to the stations’ early evening newscasts called “The Talk Tonight.”
CNY Central Vice President of News Rae Fulkerson says, “Matt, Megan and Michael are offering different perspectives on the most important and talked-about news stories. We hope this encourages viewers not just to simply watch the news but to become part of the conversation”
Also starting on Monday, September 24th, CNY Central will no longer produce a noon newscast on WSTM-NBC 3 or WTVH-CBS 5.
CNY Central President and CEO Chris Geiger says, “As Central New Yorkers change the way they get their news, CNY Central is focused on changing with them. Viewers are turning the television on earlier. During the day they are shifting to online and mobile news sites. We are committed to doing the same.”
Access Hollywood will replace the Noon News on WSTM-NBC 3 and Extra will replace the Noon News on WTVH-CBS 5.
