SYRACUSE -- A Syracuse man was quickly arrested following a bank robbery on James Street.
Syracuse Police say they arrested Equawan Williams, 36, in connection with a bank robbery at the Chase Bank located at 801 James Street.
Police say Williams entered the bank around 9:50am Thursday morning. He allegedly handed a teller a threatening note demanding money. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of money and Williams left the bank.
Witnesses told police say they saw Williams run across the street and into the Skyline Apartments.
During a canvass of the area officers say they saw a taxi cab waiting in the area of the 500 block of Catherine Street and a man fitting the description of Williams ran up and entered the cab.
Police say officers quickly surrounded the cab and found Williams in the car and covered in red dye from an exploding dye pack that was given to him in the bank.
Police took Williams in to custody and was positively identified by witnesses. He was still in possession of the money he stole from the bank when he was arrested. Williams was also in possession of crack cocaine.
Williams is charged with third degree and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Syracuse City court on Friday September 21, 2012 at 9:00am.
