LOCKE -- A Cayuga County man who molested a 3-year-old and subjected a 6-year-old to sexual contact was sentenced to 57 years in state prison.
Robert Knapp, of Locke, was convicted after the child’s mother walked in on the abuse.
The law says Knapp will have to serve at least 42 years and he won't be eligible for release until he's nearly 80-years-old.
At his sentencing, prosecutors say Knapp screamed obscenities and tried to attack sheriff’s deputies. Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann says Knapp doesn’t deserve to see the light of day.
"The defendant’s behavior at sentencing once again revealed his true character, if there was any doubt left," said Budelmann. "We believe he was appropriately held accountable to the extent the law allows for his monstrous abuse of these innocent children. He does not deserve to see the light of day"
Knapp was convicted of 11 counts of rape in the first degree, criminal sexual act in the first degree, aggravated sexual abuse in the third degree, sexual abuse in the first degree, and endangering the welfare of a child in August.
