DEWITT -- The owners of the ShoppingTown Mall in Dewitt say they are now committed to talking with the town, Onondaga County Officials and local stakeholders about the long-term future of the mall on Erie Boulevard.

LNR Property, which is based in Florida, will meet with leaders in Syracuse later this month.

LNR Property took over ownership of the mall last January, but until recently the company was unresponsive to various pushes to talk about a plan to redevelop the retail site.

In August, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer got involved. He says bringing in a new type of housing, for students or seniors, would bring in more foot traffic.

The mall brings in more than $700,000 in property taxes to the county and DeWitt's budget.
