ALBANY (AP) -- The bottles of alcohol for sale at county fairs and farmers' markets are about to get a bit more adult in New York.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation permitting licensed farm distilleries to sell liquor at the fairs and markets and at the annual New York State Fair.

That puts them on an equal footing with wineries and farm wineries and breweries. Cuomo says that will allow them to build their customer bases.

The farm distilleries are required to use mostly New York agricultural products in their liquors. They'd been limited to holding tastings and selling on their own properties.

The distillers will need permits from the State Liquor Authority and must have a representative at each testing or sale.

The law takes effect in six months.
