The Syracuse Police Department is investigating an attempted robbery of a 61-year-old cab driver.

The attempted robbery occurred Monday evening right after 6:30 p.m. at East Onondaga and South Warren Street. The victim is a driver for Bellavia Taxi.

According to police, the driver picked up four black male teenagers who stated they wanted to go to Thorndon Park. The driver asked for a more specific address while they were on the way to Thorndon Park, but the teens didn't give him one. This made the driver suspicious and he made them get out of the cab.

Police say the males got out of the cab, but then one of them approached the victim's window and displayed a knife. He demanded money from the driver. The driver told the suspect he didn't have any money.

The suspect is described as a 5'8" to 5'9", about 16 or 17 years old, and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt traveling along Warren Street.

Police are asking anyone with information on this attempted robbery to contact them at 315-442-5222.
