CHERRY VALLEY, OTSEGO COUNTY (AP) -- Authorities say a 66-year-old man has died after he got hit by a falling tree while logging in an upstate New York town.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office tells YNN cable television news in Syracuse that deputies received a 911 call around 6:30 p.m. reporting a man was trapped under a fallen tree in the rural town of Cherry Valley, 50 miles west of Albany.

When emergency crews arrived, they found Robert Lusk of Cherry Valley pinned under a tree in a wooded area. Authorities say he had been hit from behind by a previously cut tree which fell as he was cutting up a log.

Lusk was pronounced dead at the scene from massive internal injuries.
