Liverpool woman charged after stealing family members' identities

LIVERPOOL -- According to the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department, deputies arrested a Liverpool woman on Friday after investigating accusations she stole the identities of four different family members to file and collect unemployment insurance.

Patricia Harrington, of 4875 Driftwood Drive, is accused of filing the claims between August 2011 and July 2012 and stealing approximately $20,000 in unemployment insurance benefits.

Harrington was charged Friday afternoon with grand larceny in the 3rd degree, scheme to defraud in the 1st degree, forgery in the 2nd degree, identity theft in the 1st degree, falsifying business records in the 1st degree and criminal possession of a forged instrument in the 2nd degree.

Onondaga County Sheriff's Detectives worked with the New York State Department of Labor and the U.S. Probation Department on the investigation after detecting unusual account activity.
