SYRACUSE -- More construction headaches started Friday morning as Interstate 690 eastbound closed for bridge repairs from the I-81 Interchange to Teall Avenue.

Construction on the I-690 overpass spanning Crouse Avenue got underway around 9:00 a.m. Friday morning and are scheduled to continue through the weekend. The Geddes Street and McBride Street on-ramps will be closed during this time. Work is expected to completed in the afternoon on Monday, October 22.

The State Department of Transportation is recommending all eastbound traffic entering the City of Syracuse from the west exit at West Street, West Genesee Street, or I-81 southbound.

The Syracuse Police Department is also advising any fans going to the Carrier Dome for the Syracuse-UConn football game Friday night leave early and anticipate traffic delays before and after the game. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.

Police say fans should avoid trying to park near the Dome unless they have a parking permit, and all surface parking lots around the Dome are by permit only. If you don't have a permit and want to avoid traffic delays you can use the Skytop parking complex located on East Colvin Street near Manley Field House. Skytop parking costs $10 but includes free shuttle busing to and from the game.

"The Syracuse Police Department will be strictly enforcing the parking regulations around the Dome," said Sgt. Gary Bulinski in a press release. "Illegally parked vehicles can be ticketed and towed. Ticket and towing fees can exceed $150.00."
