SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police successfully caught Bryant Brown, 21, who stole a car in Syracuse and led police on a chase in the Town of Clay Saturday afternoon.
Police responded to a report of a carjacking at a parking garage at 401 S. Salina Street at around 2:00 p.m. Saturday. The victim, a 22 year old man, told police he was parking his 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 in a parking garage when another man showed a knife and tried to enter the vehicle through the open passenger side window.
The victim says he ran to a safe location to tell police about the incident, giving police a description of the carjacker and the car.
When police arrived on the scene, they were about to enter the parking garage when Brown drove the stolen Dodge Ram through the metal security gate, and headed north on Warren Street. At that point, Syracuse Police notified dispatch with the information about the stolen vehicle.
At about 3:15, an Onondaga County Sheriff's deputy saw the stolen vehicle being driven by Brown near the intersection of Morgan Road and Route 31 in the Town of Clay. The deputy tried to stop the stolen vehicle, but Brown refused to stop. Another Sheriff's deputy in the area put stop sticks in the path of the stolen car, which hit the stop sticks, causing the two front tires to deflate. The deflated tires resulted in the car stopping minutes later on Henry Clay Blvd. near Wetzel Road.
Brown was taken into custody without incident.
