CLAY -- The 2009 murder case of Central New York native Sheena Morris is attracting national attention, as Dr. Phil takes on her death. Episodes featuring Sheena's parents, as well as her fiance, will air Thursday and Friday.
Florida police say Sheena committed suicide after she was found hanged in a hotel room on New Years Day 2009.
Sheena's parents are convinced she was murdered and believe her fiance, 48-year-old Joe Genoese, is responsible. Geonoese just failed a polygraph test about Sheena's murder.
Genoese told reporters from HeraldTribune.com that going on the Dr. Phil Show and taking a lie-detector test was the worst mistake of his life.
In August, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement began reviewing Sheena's murder case to determine if local police conducted a full investigation. At that time, CNY Central spoke to Sheena's father about the entire ordeal.
"Of course, it's been a complete nightmare," said David Morris. "I mean, it's bad enough that you lose your daughter, your only child. But at the same time, you have all this resistance from the police department."
Sheena's parents are not able to comment until The Dr. Phil Show episodes air, but Sheena's fiance claims he was set up by the show's producers, and is opting to take another polygraph test next week to try to prove his innoncence.
The episodes will air on WSTM NBC3 at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
