SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police have made an arrest in the September 30th shooting outside the B&B Lounge on South Avenue. The Police Chief Frank Fowler says it was tips from the public that came in after police released surveillance video showing the aftermath of the crime that allowed investigators to close the case.
25-year-old Anthony Hopper of Syracuse has been charged with second-degree murder and assault in the killing of 23-year-old Rodney Maddux. Hopper shot two other people who recovered.
Police say Hopper shot Maddux as he tried to break up a fight outside the B&B Lounge early on the morning of Sept. 30. Two other men were wounded.
The surveillance video and the tips it generated were key.
"We had a tremendous amount of public cooperation after we revealed that video," says Fowler. "I believe we are at a turning point when it comes to generating tips from the public, and I have to say that the level of cooperation we got from people who helped us identify the people on that video was instrumental in helping us solve an investigation like this."
Fowler says Hopper is expected to be arraigned in Syracuse City Court Thursday.
