JAMESVILLE -- Onondaga County Emergency Management says they are filling sandbags at the County Department of Transportation depot in Jamesville. The 1,500 available sandbags will be distributed as needed over the next couple days.

"Currently it appears Onondaga County will miss the direct impact of Sandy, however, we will be affected," said Commissioner of Emergency Management Kevin Wisely. "We are prepared to respond to whatever develops and encourage everyone to keep aware of what is happening and stay safe until the storm passes."

Wisely tells CNY Central that people should do what they can to secure their property, bringing in outdoor furniture and Halloween decorations. He advises people to make sure they have bottled water and batteries, and put together an emergency plan."

More info is available on the county's website.
