More flights canceled at Syracuse Hancock Airport

SYRACUSE -- Flights out of Syracuse Hancock Airport continue to be delayed and canceled following superstorm Sandy that rattled the east coast Monday night.

More than 75 percent of departing flight and 50 percent of arriving flights was cancelled by 7:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. The airport was nearly deserted as a result of the cancellations.

There were more delays Tuesday than Monday.

In addition to flights to and from Washington, Philadelphia and New York being cancelled, Airports in other parts of the country are cancelling flights due to a backlog of flights.

Flights leaving Hancock Airport destined for the Midwest cities of Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit, as well as south to Atlanta and Boston, were all cancelled.

CNY Central’s Brandon Roth spoke to three Canadians whose flight to Chicago had been delayed more than 12 hours.

Train services, Megabus, and Greyhound services are also canceled in the Northeast Tuesday.

More than 12,000 flights were cancelled nationwide Tuesday. Airlines are warning those with tickets that there could be more delays and cancellations in the next couple of days.
