SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police are investigating a fatal shooting at the Lawrence Apartments on the 400 block of James Street.  Police received multiple 911 calls for a man shot down behind the building around 7:45pm Sunday evening.

The 43-year-old victim was taken to University Hospital, where he later died.  Officials believe there was a disturbance in the apartment parking lot.

Witnesses reported seeing a black male wearing a hooded sweatshirt fleeing the scene, running down James Street toward North State Street immediately after the shooting. There are also reports of a dark-colored car speeding out of the building parking lot right after the shooting.

Police now want the public's help in catching the suspect. "We're appealing to anyone who may have seen anyone in the area that may have heard anything," said Sgt. Thomas Connellan.

Anyone with information is asked to call Syracuse Police at 442-5222. All calls will remain confidential.
