SYRACUSE (AP) -- A 38-year-old central New York man has admitted in court that he drove drunk before a crash that killed his best friend.

The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that Huyland Bryant of Skaneateles pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter Monday in the death of 41-year-old Steven Paul Kearney.

Kearney died at home two days after being injured in the crash last July.

Authorities said Kearney was riding in a pickup truck Bryant was driving when the vehicle crossed the center line on Route 174 in Marcellus and struck another vehicle.

Robin Kearney said her husband died of a pulmonary embolism. She faulted the hospital for sending him home several hours before he died.

A plea deal will give Bryant five years' probation and 100 hours of community service.
