ALDEAN (AP) -- Mourners overflowed a rural western New York church for the funeral of a U.S. Army Reservist killed in a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan.

The funeral for Sgt. Brett Gornewicz of Alden took place Monday as the nation observed Veteran's Day.

Friends and relatives filled St. John's Roman Catholic Church in the small town east of Buffalo, standing along the walls and spilling out onto the front steps.

The 27-year-old Gornewicz was killed along with fellow combat engineers 29-year-old Staff Sgt. Dain Venne of Port Henry and 22-year-old Spc. Ryan Jayne of Campbell while conducting route-clearing duties in Paktiya province on Nov. 3.

Venne's funeral is Tuesday in Port Henry. Jayne's funeral will be Wednesday at his alma mater, Corning East High School.
