MONTEZUMA, CAYUGA COUNTY -- Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office released the names of the two people killed in a crash involving two cars and a Seneca Falls school bus Tuesday evening.

43-year-old Dawn M. Wilder-Smith, of Port Byron, and 73-year-old Ann L. Eider, of Clifton Springs, were killed in the crash.

The crash happened around 6:00pm on NYS Rt. 90 near the intersection of Salt Block Rd. in the Town of Montezuma, according to Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould.

The preliminary investigation reveals that Wilder-Smith was driving a 2007 Nissan SUV northbound on Rt. 90 and crossed into the path of a southbound Seneca Falls School Bus operated 54-year-old James D. Fulkerson of Port Byron, says Gould.

Smith’s vehicle hit the school bus and continued into the southbound lane striking a 2011 Kia, operated by 53-year-old Penny L. Eider of Clifton Springs, which was travelling behind the bus.

Wilder-Smith and a front seat passenger in Penny Eider’s vehicle, Ann Eider, were both pronounced dead at the scene, says Gould. Penny Eider and rear seat passenger, her 75-year-old father Roger L. Eider, were airlifted to University Hospital in Syracuse.

There were no passengers in Smith’s vehicle.

Gould says the Seneca Falls School Bus was occupied by 15 students and 3 adults including Fulkerson, the driver. One student was transported to Geneva General Hospital with a minor injury.

The bus was reportedly traveling back to Seneca Falls after a wrestling match at Port Byron School.

Roger Eider was listed in serious condition and Penny Eider was listed in good condition, both at University Hospital, late Wednesday morning.

Gould says Penny Eider and Ann Eider were both wearing seatbelts. Roger Eider was not wearing a seat belt. Wilder-Smith was also not wearing a seat belt.

Anyone with information regarding this accident is asked to contact Detective Timothy Axton at 315-253-1132.
