SYRACUSE -- Onondaga Community College and St. John Fisher College in Rochester form an academic alliance.

The partnership allows students who earn their associates degree at OCC to transfer to St. John Fisher to complete their Baccalaureate. It's called called a “2+2 partnership agreement.”

Starting now, students can register for the 2+2 program.

The program covers 14 programs at Onondaga, including Accounting, Business Administration, Computer science, and Nursing.

Students enrolled in those programs can transition seamlessly into their choice of Fisher's undergraduate programs, including the School of Arts and Science, the School of Business, Ralph C. Wilson Jr. School of Education and Wegmans School of Nursing.

Participating students will be able to receive academic advising from advisors at OCC and Fisher.

Margaret O'Connell, Interim President at Onondaga Community College, and Dr. Donald Bain, President of St. John Fisher College, says Syracuse's close proximity to Rochester and similar founding views were building blocks to establish the partnership.

"Part of our responsibility is to help men and women build lives, create careers, and then serve the community, and I know President O'Connell shares those views with me, and I know your faculty and staff have a similar view," said Dr. Bain in an address to staff at OCC on Wednesday.

Right now, about 20 percent of students at St. John Fisher are from the greater Syracuse area.

OCC has 2+2 program agreements with three other schools -- SUNY Alfred, University at Buffalo, and Syracuse University. St. John Fisher has similar agreements with Finger Lakes Community College, Genesee Community College, and Monroe Community College.
