CARTHAGE -- A Carthage woman is in the Jefferson County jail, accused of strangling her six month old niece.

New York State Police arrested Amber Simpson, 25, Wednesday night for the death of the baby.

She told investigators she got frustrated when she tried to get the baby to stop crying. That's whe investigators say she strangled her, choking the infant.

Hours later, Simpson's boyfriend found the baby wasn't breathing.

"After this happened she cared for the baby further, and tried to give the child a bottle, and went about her business. Until the medical call that night, we don't have any indication that she knew the extent of the injuries," says State Police Investigator Mark Lincoln.

Simpson was arraigned in the Village of Carthage Court and sent to jail on $30,000 cash bail or $60,000 bond.
