SYRACUSE -- On Sunday, the community donated their time and money to raising funds for a Cicero family who lost their home to a fire on October 4th.

The fire in October destroyed David Hennessey and Maryann Fields' home and all of their belongings. Sunday's fundraiser at the American Legion in Cicero featured local music group The Blacklites, a raffle of several different items and donation bins. While multiple people at the event bought dozens of raffle tickets, people generously donated their own money in the donation bins. Cash and checks ranging from $5 to $200 piled up in the bins, all in the effort of helping the family get back on their feet.

"To know as a community everybody came together like this for us," David Hennessey, a former Syracuse police officer, says. "They were there the minute the fire trucks rolled in, it's been continual, it's just overwhelming."

The family will be presented with a check this week, with all of the money going toward the family building a new life.
