CAZENOVIA (AP) -- Christmas tree growers in upstate New York are feeling some holiday cheer.

Tree farmers are reporting a good year and are seeing more customers buying locally grown trees and accessories. The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports that higher-than-normal temperatures and lower-than-normal rainfall helped this year's crop.

Tree farmers in central New York told the newspaper that the only victims of the heat and drought this year were newly planted trees. Larger trees have deeper roots and are able to pull moisture up during a drought.

Mary Jeanne Packer of the Christmas Tree Farmers Association of New York said an upswing in the economy may be helping sales.
