SARATOGA SPRINGS (AP) -- An upstate man's collection of G.I. Joes dating back to the 1960s and `70s is featured in a newly opened exhibit at the New York State Military Museum.

Tearle Ashby of Ballston Spa has loaned his collection of Hasbro action figures to the Saratoga Spring museum for its exhibit titled, "Toys and Tanks: The Model Army."

Ashby tells the Post-Star of Glens Falls that he grew up with G.I. Joes but had to spend the last two decades re-acquiring the ones he had as a child.

G.I. Joe first hit the toy market in 1964 as a 12-inch "movable fighting man" and remained popular for more than a decade before Hasbro discontinued the larger ones in 1976.

The exhibit includes G.I. Joes in various scenes, including a medic's tent and a World War II display.
