SYRACUSE -- The online food website Grub-Hub conducted a national survey to determine which cities are home to some of the best and worst tippers. Syracuse actually ranked second behind Dayton, Ohio for low tips and Ithaca was right behind in third. Hartford and New Haven Connecticut rounded out the top five.

Waitresses at Stella's Diner on the Northside were surprised to hear Syracuse ranked so low when it comes to tips.

Server Debbie Joe Bayliss said "I'm surprised that it is so low because we all do very well at least 15 percent."

On the flip side, southern cities had some of the best tippers. Charleston, New Orleans, and Virginia Beach were all named among the top five.

There is one positive sign for the restaurant workers -- the average tip during the holiday season is up 15% this year, over last.
