WATERLOO -- The Seneca County Sheriff's Office says in a release that it is investigating a fatal, two vehicle motor crash that happened on Thursday at about 5:55 PM at the intersection of State Route 96 and Brewer Road in the Town of Waterloo.

Sheriff's Deputies say that 59-year-old Jean V. White of Waterloo was driving north on Brewer Road and failed to yield the right of way when she reached the intersection of State Route 96. When White attempted to cross State Route 96, her vehicle was struck by a pickup truck being driven by 70-year-old Stephen G. Lansing of Phelps, who was going east.

Both vehicles ended up in a ditch on State Route 96.

White had to be pulled from her vehicle by the Waterloo Fire Department and then airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital.  She was later pronounced dead.

Lansing and his passengers, 11-year-old Samantha L. Merkley and nine-year-old Zack S. Merkley, were checked out at the scene and released with minor injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene with heavy damage.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Team arrived at the scene and a portion of State Route 96 was closed for a little over two hours.
