ALBANY (AP) -- Albany police say a report of an armed gunman inside a nursing home a day after 26 people were killed in a Connecticut school was a false alarm.

City and county officials got a report at about 5:20 p.m. Saturday of a man with a rifle walking through the halls of the Daughters of Sarah Senior Community. Albany police spokesman Steve Smith says most residents were eating at the time and were held in the dining room as police swept the building. There were no evacuations.

No gunman was found. Police say it was a miscommunication - people are jittery after 20-year-old Adam Lanza killed 20 children and six school workers in Newtown, Conn. before killing himself. Smith says police are trained for such calls and would have responded regardless.
