FORT DRUM (AP) -- Drones operated by the New York Air National Guard will begin firing live missiles for the first time during training at Fort Drum this week.

The Syracuse Post-Standard reports the 174th Attack Wing's MQ-9 Reaper crews will be launching the missiles this week at the firing range after training with dummy weapons since January.

Residents near the northern New York post may hear explosions during the afternoon and evening launches, especially during cooler evening when sound travels farther.
