CHITTENANGO -- A Chittenango High School student was suspended and arrested Tuesday after he allegedly said it would be fun to bring a gun to school.

Chittenango Police say they were called to the Chittenango High School to investigate a possible verbal threat made at the school on Tuesday.

Police say a 16-year-old male student allegedly made a statement that it would be funny to bring a gun to school. The student also made a statement saying he was bringing a gun to school and shoot people.

Chittenango Superintendent Michael Schiedo says the student has been suspended but the length of suspension has not yet been set. He says there will likely be a superintendent hearing at a later date.

The student was charged with falsely reporting an incident and was removed from the school. He was processed at the Chittenango Police Department and arraigned in the Village of Chittenango Court.

The teen was placed on supervised release with the Madison County Probation Department and was ordered not to return to any school district property or events.

He's due back in village court at a later date.
