SYRACUSE (AP) -- A federal border agent has been convicted of falsifying records while on the job in northern New York.
The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that a federal jury in Utica found 48-year-old Todd Tyo (TYE'-oh) of Heuvelton (HYOO'-vuhl-tuhn) guilty of two counts of making false entries in a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol cash register. He was acquitted Wednesday of theft of government funds and concealing evidence.
Prosecutors said Tyo took $10.75 entry fees from two truckers last year and then falsely entered "No sale" in the register.
Tyo worked at the Alexandria Bay port of entry on the St. Lawrence River.
Sentencing is set for May 10, when Tyo could be sent to prison for as long as five years and fined $250,000.
