KEENE, NY (AP) -- A Syracuse man who suffered severe injuries when he fell down an Adirondack mountainside has had his condition upgraded from critical to serious.
The Adirondack Daily Enterprise reports that 41-year-old Calum Stewart remains at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., where he was transferred after initially being treated at Elizabethtown Community Hospital.
State forest rangers say Stewart suffered traumatic injuries last Saturday after falling 150 feet down a slide on Nippletop Mountain in the Essex County town of Keene. Rangers say he also suffered cold-related injuries from spending Saturday night on the mountainside before he was carried out of the woods by a rescue team.
Officials say Stewart was with three companions when he fell while ice climbing in the Dix Mountain Wilderness.
