MARTINSBURG -- Lewis County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a snowmobile accident that happened on Fykes Road, a seasonal road in the Town of Martinsburg December 22.

21-year-old Sean T. Gammel was headed west on Fykes Road when he noticed a tree down across the trail. Gammel had to jump off of his sled, which the hit the tree.

Gammel was not hurt in the accident.

20-year-old Cody J. Kellog did not see the accident and hit the same tree the Gammel had avoided.

Kellog was thrown from his sled, landing over 50 feet to the left of the road.

Lewis County Search and Rescue transported Kellog to Lewis County General Hospital where he was treated and released.

The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind snowmobilers to use caution and ride in control to avoid accidents with trees and branches, as well as other riders.
