WEBSTER (AP) -- A 19-year-old volunteer firefighter is being laid to rest in western New York.

Tomasz Kaczowka (TOH'-mahz kah-CHOOV'-skah) was shot dead by William Spengler in the pre-dawn of Christmas Eve. Also killed was 43-year-old Lt. Michael Chiapperini, who had been a mentor for the younger firefighter and many others. Spengler lured first responders into a deadly trap by setting fire to his house on the shore of Lake Ontario and lying in wait with an arsenal in the town of Webster.

An estimated 5,000 first responders from across the state were in town for the weekend to attend calling hours for both men. Many stayed for Chiapperini's funeral on Sunday at Webster Schroeder High School.

Kaczowka's funeral is on Monday morning at St. Stanislaus Church in Rochester.
