SYRACUSE -- The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York announced today that Brian Lamont Roberts, of Syracuse, plead guilty to stealing a can of soda from a truck driver at knife-point.

The maximum penalty for robbery, even a sugary beverage, is 15 years in prison.

During his hearing, Roberts said he threatened the driver while he was drunk and high on crack-cocaine. Roberts admitted to substance-abuse problems, and he has been in drug and alcohol treatments in prison for most of the last year.

The judge ordered that he stay in the programs.

Sentencing was set for May 13th.
