ROCHESTER (AP) -- Two western New York firefighters who survived the Christmas Eve ambush shootings in Webster have been released from the hospital.

An official at Rochester's Strong Memorial Hospital confirmed Saturday that Joseph Hofstetter and Theodore Scardino have been released. They were wounded when William Spengler Jr. set fire to his house and shot first responders who arrived on the scene before dawn on Christmas Eve.

Volunteer firefighters Mike Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka were shot and killed before Spengler shot himself.
