SYRACUSE -- The Eastwood Satellite Police Office opens Monday afternoon with Mayor Stephanie Miner hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony.
It is the eight satellite police office opened in Syracuse and is located at 2340 James Street, next door to the Palace Theater.
The office will be staffed with two officers and a sergeant who will work directly from the office, says Miner. The officers will use a personalized and problem-oriented approach to engage and assist residents and business owners in Eastwood with issues unique to their community.
Miner says foot patrols and bike patrols may be deployed from the satellite office and officers from various shifts may use the office, increasing the police presence in the area. The office will also be used for meetings by neighborhood and community watch groups.
"Public safety has been one of the top priorities of my administration," said Miner in a media release. "By opening this center in Eastwood, we are giving the community a closer relationship with the police department. Neighbors and business owners will develop relationships with these officers and the officers will be able to respond to any area incidents expediently."
The center was furnished through donations from Bob Pomfrey, President and C.F.O. of POMCO and the local Bank of America branch. A new sign designating the facility will be provided by the neighboring PostNet store.
