UTICA -- A Vermont woman will spend three years on probation for embezzling money from the Utica post office.

53-year-old Donna Hammond-Hayes was sentenced Friday after she pleaded guilty to misappropriating postal funds.

She was ordered to pay $4,729 in restitution and perform 50 hours of community service.

Hammond-Hayes admitted to stealing from the Kernan Station Post Office while working there. She says she received cash from a customer for the sale of merchandise, and later, after the post office was closed, processed a refund for the return of the merchandise, and embezzled the money.
