VERONA (AP) -- An Oneida County woman must serve 10 weekends in jail and pay more than $3,300 in fines for mistreating two dogs.

The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that 49-year-old Bridget LaClaire of Verona was sentenced Tuesday night in town court. She was charged in August with two counts of animal cruelty after sheriff's deputies found two dogs on her property chained outside without food and water.

A white pit bull named Sapphire had a collar so tight it had cut into its neck. A husky named Sunday was also seized.

Sapphire's new owner publicized the case on Facebook and asked people to contact the judge and LaClaire's employer.

LaClaire said the dogs were on a 20-foot tie-out under a shady tree and were fed, watered and walked daily.
