PULASKI -- Pulaski Police Chief Ellery Terpening told CNY Central on Wednesday that Pulaski's board voted to move forward with a proposal to eliminate the village's police department on Monday.
If the village of Pulaski decides to eliminate the police department, nine officers will loose their jobs.Calls will be dispatched to the Oswego County Sheriff's Deparment and the New York State Police.
The board will hold a public hearing on February 19 at 7pm.
Mayor Karl Hax told CNY Central in November that eliminating the police department is part of a budget crunch. He said he is confident that the village has enough law enforcement, citing the State Police barracks in Pulaski, along with Oswego County Sheriff's Deputies and the DEC Enforcement staffers, who are also in Pulaski. The Mayor says scheduling is also an issue, with difficulties in filling high-need times.
Police Chief Ellory Terpening told CNY Central in November that there is a likelihood that response times would change. "I'm sure not all the time, but sometimes the response times will change. Just because of the distance they will be traveling from point A to point B, so there will be a change absolutely," said Terpening.
