ALBANY (AP) -- New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says a new $400,000 grant program has been established to fund projects aimed at restoring waterways in the Adirondacks that have been damaged by acid rain.

Acid rain caused by pollution from coal-fired power plants has decreased significantly in recent years from state and federal anti-pollution efforts, but the attorney general says parts of the Adirondack Mountains have been slow to recover.

The program will be funded with money the state received through a multi-state settlement with the former Cinergy Corp. over Clean Air Act violations.
