GENESEO -- A Geneseo man was shot by State Police after allegedly pointing a gun at his father.

Police were called to 3375 North Road in the Town of Geneseo in Livingston County around 10:45 p.m. Monday night for a report of a suicidal man.

Troopers say when they got there, Kevin Walsh was trying to calm down his son, Greg Walsh, who was holding a long gun.

After a struggle over the weapon, police say the son struck his father with the gun butt and then pointed the weapon at him. A trooper told him to put it down and when he didn't, the trooper shot him in the shoulder.

Greg Walsh was taken into custody and
taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation continues.
