SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police are investigating a crash that left a police officer hurt.
It happened around 9:35 a.m. on 690 eastbound.
Police were responding to a disabled vehicle on the highway just east of the West Street exit. Officer Joseph Hilliker was in his marked patrol car which was stopped behind the disabled car. Both cars were stopped on the right shoulder of the highway and the police cruiser had its emergency lights on when it was struck from behind by a 2008 Lexus.
Officer Hilliker and the Lexus driver were both taken to Upstate University Hospital as a precaution. Both were treated and released.
So far, no tickets have been issued. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
The highway was closed for about 45 minutes while police cleared up the scene.
