MALONE, NY (AP) -- Authorities say several houses in northern New York have been evacuated after flooding caused by ice jams on a river chased residents from their homes.

Emergency services officials in Franklin County say four homes in Malone were evacuated Thursday and electricity was cut to three others after the Salmon River flooded a street. Officials tell local media outlets that residents forced from their homes are staying with relatives until the flood waters recede.

The National Weather Service had issued a flood watch for the Malone area through Thursday. Frigid conditions are expected through the weekend before temperatures rise into the 20s next week. Officials say warmer weather will break up the ice jams causing the flooding.
