ITHACA -- At around 1:26 am on Tuesday, the Ithaca Police Department responded to the area of the 100 block of Oak Avenue due to a report of gun shots.

Ithaca Police say in a release that within minutes of the call that they, along with Cornell Police units, were on the scene and were searching the area for victims and/or suspects.

Police say that they spoke with multiple residents who all heard four or five gun shots.  Although no suspects were seen, a dark colored vehicle was seen leaving the area right after the shots were heard.

At around 2:05 AM, there was a report of a man with a gun shot wound at 503 Hancock Street.

While Cornell Police held the scene at Oak Avenue, Ithaca Police responded to Hancock Street.  When they arrived, the victim was conscious, alert and walking.  He said he was shot in the buttocks by an unknown man.  The victim confirmed that it happened in the area of the 100 block of Oak Avenue but wouldn’t provide any more information.

The victim, who is not a Cornell student, was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about this incident is being asked to the Ithaca Police Department at 607-272-9973.
