Liverpool man charged with rape in Phoenix

PHOENIX -- A Liverpool man was charged with first degree rape Thursday, stemming from an incident in 2005.

Joseph A. Stefanovich, 42, of 912 Vine Street in Liverpool, was arrested Thursday for first degree rape stemming from a July 2005 in the Village of Phoenix, according to the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office.

Police say Stefanovich allegedly forced the victim into a wooded area and forced him or her to have sexual intercourse.

Stefanovich was arraigned in the Town of Scriba Court and remanded to the Oswego County Jail. He is being held with out bail. Stefanovich is scheduled to appear in the Town of Schroeppel Court on February 6.
