SYRACUSE -- Reports from the Post-Standard exploded on Twitter Sunday morning that James Southerland won his appeal and was eligible to play against St. John's today.

I talked to an SU Athletics spokesperson who could not confirm that report, but made sure I knew that didn't mean that it wasn't true.

Southerland has missed the last 6 games with an eligibility issue. He was SU's 2nd leading scorer before the suspension, and the Orange went 4-2 in that stretch.

Stay tuned to CNY Central as we work to confirm whether Southerland will play today against St. John's at 3pm in the Carrier Dome
