The Fayetteville-Manlius Boys Varsity Ice Hockey Team has been disqualified from postseason play. This includes both sectional and state tournaments. Last night the school board gave the approval to appeal the ruling handed down by section 3. Teams are limited to 20 regular season games and F-M played 21. Their record for the 2012-2013 season was 13-7-1. One of these games is being contested with the help of legal council as a scrimmage, which would not be counted as part of the regular season.

Superintendent Corliss Kaiser released a statement yesterday. “We have reached out to our school attorney, and we are launching an appeal. It appears this was a scheduling error – something not caused by the students – and we feel strongly that the students should not be punished for something that was out of their control. We are concerned about possible inconsistencies in applying this rule. We want what is fair for all students,” says Kaiser. “At the same time, we are investigating how the error occurred and making sure that we have appropriate checks and balances in place to ensure this does not happen again.”
