ROCHESTER -- The city of Rochester got a letter from the U.S. Olympic Committee, asking if the city was interested in hosting the Summer Games in 2024.

The U.S. Olympic Committee is putting together it’s bid for the games.  It sent letters to 35 cities to see if there was interest in submitting a bid.

The cities that were asked ranged in size and population from New York City, with 8.2 million people, to Rochester, which has 210,000 people.

One of the requirements listed in the letter was having 45,000 hotel rooms available for the games.

Rochester City Hall tells News 8 in Rochester that it is flattered but that city finances put it in no position to build facilities or book the thousands of hotel rooms that would be needed.

It is estimated that the bid, by itself, would cost ten million dollars.
