ROCHESTER (AP) -- The relaunching of the Empire State Summer Games is being delayed another year because organizers say corporate sponsors are giving extra funds to Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts.

State budget problems scratched the games the past two summers and the Rochester-based Empire State Games Foundation says it's postponing renewal of the Olympic-style event until 2014.

The summer games had been scheduled to resume this July in the Rochester area. But organizers say they found out that previous corporate sponsors have been providing extra funding for post-Sandy relief.

The organization says the games will be held in Rochester next year.

The games, first held in 1978, feature thousands of New Yorkers competing in various athletic events. The games pump millions of dollars into the economies of the host cities.
