CORTLAND COUNTY -- The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Whitney Point woman for DWI, endangering the welfare of a child and several other charges after she crashed her car into a tree in the Town of Virgil on February 15.

Deputies say 49-year-old Michele C. Christopher was driving on Clute Road in the Town of Virgil when she drove off the road and eventually crashed into a tree.

Deputies found Christopher at a nearby house. Christopher had her 8-year-old child in the car at the time of the accident, according to deputies.

Christopher was charged with DWI, Leandra’s Law, for DWI with a child in the vehicle, failure to keep right, failure to submit to a breath screening device, endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest.

There were no injuries in the accident.

The child was turned over to family members. Christopher was arraigned and released on an appearance ticket.
