ALBANY (AP) -- Time Warner Cable customers in 10 upstate towns and villages will be refunded $2.2 million under a settlement with New York.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says the settlement with his office announced Thursday requires Time Warner to pay refunds to 18,437 customers and stop charging fees that exceed the amounts allowed under their municipalities' franchise agreements.
Refunds will go to customers in the towns of Glenville, Livonia, Stafford, Oakfield, Geneva, Thompson, Lima, Batavia and the villages of Waterloo and Ellenville.
Time Warner says it's prepared to be in full compliance with the settlement and that customers will receive a credit proportional to their monthly video charges on their statement within 90 days.
Schneiderman says refund amounts will vary, but will average $119.
He says the overcharges date to March 2007.
